Introduction of Myself
Hello, my name is Jaciangelys, a lot of people call me "Jacy", other "Jacian", or they just call me by my full name but as you can see is very long and hard to pronounce. I am 18 years old, and I was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico. When I was 13 years old, my family had to the United States because of the hurricane Maria in 2017. I didn't know any English when I move so I had to my new environment and learn how to speak, and it was really hard for me to do well in school and communicate with everyone. I am currently still learning, but college has helped me a lot with my vocabulary and communication. The reason why I decided to come to Allegheny College is because I play volleyball and my coach recruited me, and also because of how good the education is. My major is Biology and my minor is Spanish. I want to be a pharmacist in a future but I'm not sure if that's what I really want. When it comes to me as a person, I love to listen to music, clean, and of course play volleyball. I am a really quiet person until you get to know me, I am very sarcastic, and I love helping people. One of my favorite things to do is eating, my favorite food is pasta and I also love Puerto Rican food. I also love animals so much specially dogs. I have a dog name Molly, she's a chihuahua and she's 5 years old, and I also have 8 dogs back home and two cats. I love working out and playing volleyball when I'm bored, or I feel like I need to do something productive with my life. Going back to this class, the reason why I choose it it's because usually mistakes harm me more than help me because I am a perfectionist, and I would love to change that habit because sometimes it's really hard to accept mistakes. By so far, I love this class and I am so excited to learn new things and become a better person.

Jacy, my daughter's name is Molly! She was named after one of my grandmothers, but it does seem to be a popular name for dogs!
ReplyDeleteI too resonate with difficulty of pronunciation of my name! Ja-cob is a very rare name to come across in the US. lol. I think it's very very interesting the way you have so many different interests like sports, pharmaceuticals, gym, and how these all form who you are. I also can point out, having know you, that nobody is able to tell you are still in the process of mastering english, unless you say you are. I can definitely admit that that with my slang of the English language, mixed with my sarcasm, that people may even think that you speak more clear and speak English better than me! I can also understand loving dogs. I know you loved "Lol-a" sooo much
ReplyDeleteJacy this is really interesting! I love that you dedicated to yourself to volleyball and are continuing to learn English here. I give you a lot of credit for your hardwork.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacy, that is cool that you are on the volleyball team. Playing a sport here is really fun. I am thinking about minoring in Spanish.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacy, I didn’t know you were born in Puerto Rico. That’s really cool! I also love to listen to music, but cleaning, not so much haha. I agree that mistakes usually harm me rather than help me, but I think this class is helping a bit.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacy, I am so glad you chose Allegheny because you are a great person to be around. I also love dogs--specifically ankle biters lol. One of my favorite foods is pasta too. Cleaning is not my favorite but you go girl.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacy, it is very cool that you are from Puerto Rico. One of my good friends from back home used to live in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I hope that one day I will be able visit Puerto Rico. The culture and baseball are two things I admire a lot. It is also very cool that you have so many pets.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacy, I think that it is super cool that you are from Puerto Rico and shows how brave you are that you moved to the US without knowing any English. Being displaced from your home like that sounds awful. I really want to visit Puerto Rico some time to learn about the culture and go watch a baseball game.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacy. I have never been to Puerto Rico but I hear its very beautiful, and me being a Meadville native thinks it's really cool that you ended up at Allegheny. I also love your dog, I have a German Shepard-Husky mix named Ellie back home in WV.
