Wrap-Up of the week
This week taught me a lot of things that shared so much in common. For example, when we talked about the meaning of what succeeding by mistake is, what is the meaning of motivation and what is the difference between mastery and success by Sarah Lewis. These three things were really good and were fun to learn about. One of my favorite parts about this week is when we read about "Rejection, Failure, and the Bigger Picture a Personal History by John McNally". This reading reminded me of everything I've been through in my life and also made me wonder what motivation is, and how you can cope with failures.
When I was young, I started to play sports and my first sport was gymnastics. I started to become more talented at it and I loved it, but there was one thing that happened to me. My coach started to treat me differently from others because every time that I got out of practice my mom used to buy me candy from the store next to it. He comes up to me and he tells me that I had to run for 30 minutes because I need it to lose weight due to the fact that I was too heavy compared to the others. He never took me to any competitions because he said that I was not as talented, and I need it to learn more from the others to be able to compete. While I ran, I was looking at how the other girls were training and having fun doing what they liked and got very frustrated. I was only 8 years old by that time and I still remember everything like it was today because I felt how my coach rejected me at such a young age. After that day I realized that it wasn't fair for me to be there knowing how good of an athlete I was. My mom started to take me to volleyball clinics, and she found out how talented I was. I've been playing volleyball for 10 years and step by step I've been accomplishing all my goals and one of them is being a D3 college athlete.
As we know, we all fail at one point no matter how good of a person you are or how great your life is going. In this reading John McNally explains his personal life and how he went through so many bad things and experienced rejections. John McNally never gave up until he achieved his goals, I can relate to it because the same thing happened to him at such a young age. However, I wouldn't be here right now doing what I love if I would have taken a step back. From my perspective I see it more as a motivation rather than just a negative thing. The reason why, is because rejection makes a person grow by making them stronger and better. Rejection and failure can be a good teacher in humans' life.
Being rookie of the week on my first year playing for Allegheny College.

Jacy, I'm glad you were able to find a new focus after being treated so badly by your gymnastics coach. And I love the image from your rookie of the year award!
ReplyDeleteJacy, it is very unfortunate your coach had to ruin such a valuable moment of your life. It seems that no matter what sport it is, there will always be a specific coach that makes you want to lose your love for the game. I am glad you were able to find a new passion and congratulations on Rookie of the Week.
