Wrap-Up

During this week we learned a lot and we also read articles. This week everything was different, and I really liked it. Professor Weir changed the dynamic and it was so much fun. We had the opportunity to seat with different people and share our ideas with them. It was also like a review of last's weeks just a little different. Last week we read about similar things, but the difference was that that everything was positive. For example, John McNally's article was an article that represented how people can success after every failure. Another example was Sarah Lewis' video that was another example of how people can be successful by mastering things. The difference between this week was that we read an article by Louis Hass, and everything wasn't about motivation and positiveness it was more personal.

The article is called "We should Bring Back The F''. In this article, Louis Hass (the author) is a history professor at Middle Tennesse State University that thinks that professors should bring back the F. This professor thinks that students are going to get better at school if you give them an F when they don't do something or they do it wrong. He also talks about how students spend majority of their time in videogames and their phones instead of spending the time on schoolwork and the homework that the professors assigned to them. In his opinion he thinks that by giving students an F they will learn their lesson and realize weather college is for them or is not.

In my opinion, I think that Louis Hass, is wrong. This professor is writing and speaking out of anger towards our generation. If Louis' generation would've phones and more technology, I would be pretty sure that they would be doing the same thing as us. Not only that, he only mentions the phones and videogame's part, but there's students at college that work, do sports, and other things such as clubs and other organizations. Also, a professor cannot expect a student to do well on their class when clearly is not the only one that students take. Sometimes a student might be stressing or even struggling with other subjects and that might be the reason why the student is doing so poorly on a class. By this, I mean that a student shouldn't deserve an F just because the professor assume otherwise.

In conclusion, I think that even though this article was not really about positive things, and it was more about someone's opinion, I agreed with the author a couple times. For example, I agree when he said that by this way students would care more about their grades, is a part that I agreed with because that's a way to motivate students and encourage them to do better next time and to put more effort. I also think that this article was one of the best because we got to argue with the author and also put ourselves in his shoes and not only saying "I agree". I hope there's more articles like this in a future.

  1. I really like your opposing argument against Hass' article. The fact of the matter is that Hass grew up in a different generation but we are living in a different world now that Hass seems to not understand. I wonder what would happen if we put his generation in the same technological age as us? One thing I would consider as your writing is to check your punctuation more thoroughly. I see some commas that should be replaced with periods, but overall the blog was great!
