Writing 2 Draft
While I was doing research to find a topic to talk about I found a very different and unique case that I
thought was interesting. This is the interesting story about Ramon Luis Ayala Rodriguez (Daddy
Yankee). I think a lot of people know him because of his famous song called “Gasolina” which was his
international hit single. Many people only know that he is a big artist but; how did he achieve his goals,
was it easy, did he ever experience any failures or everything was easy.
Daddy Yankee was born on February 3, 1977. He is a retired Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor. Ramon is known as the “King of Reggaeton” by music critics and fans alike. Daddy Yankee was born in Rio Piedras Puerto Rico and was raised in the Villa Kennedy Housing Projects neighborhood. When he was a little kid he always aspired to be a professional baseball player because of how much he loved baseball. He tried out for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball. Unfortunately, before he could officially sign, he was hit by a stray round from an AK-47 rifle while he was taking a break from a studio recording session with a reggaeton artist.
Raymond Ayala went through a lot of things, not only he got shot but also he had a lot of plans and he had to wait a year and a half to be able to recover from the wound. The bullet affected his dreams of playing baseball and it was never removed from his hips. In one of the interviews he said that it traumatized his life because he was only 16 years old. Also this is something that not everyone knows but Daddy Yankee spent a lot of time trying to get a song to become famous, he was struggling a lot, and he didn't have any money to be able to do music. He also had a kid at 17 years old which made him struggle even more because of the big responsibility of having a kid.
Overall we can see that his life was very hard and frustrating, but we can also see how he never gave up and kept going. First, his dream of being a professional baseball player was gone due to the incident, he also had his first kid around the same time everything happened and he couldn't walk for 4 months and after that he had to use a wheelchair and after that he was using crutches to be able to walk and finally a walking stick. After all of this, he was able to have a normal life again and his music started to sound in every country and everywhere.
This is a great example because sometimes we think that just because we are not famous people, that is the reason why we fail all the time. Well, I think this case is a great example because of how hard his life was and how many failures he experienced to be able to become the person and artist he is nowaday. This artist never gave up even when his major dream was destroyed by something that was not in his plans. He could have easily given up and stopped there, but otherwise he decided to follow another path and started to do music to see if he could have a future in it. Even when he went through a lot of economic issues and health issues he never gave up and kept going. His songs did not get famous until a couple years and even with that, he continued his career even though that's not what he loved the most. Daddy Yankee had to accept that his career as a professional baseball player was over and there was no going back. I think it's a very hard decision because I am an athlete and I can't imagine a life without my sport.
In conclusion, I choose Daddy Yankee’s story because I think that he can be an inspiration for many people that think they can achieve their goal. Everytime I think about my future and see how hard it is going to be, or everytime I fail, I think about Daddy Yankee and a lot of other artists who also went through failures; and in my head I tell myself “If they were able to do it, I can do it too”. In my opinion, no matter all the stuff you go through you always have to think that to achieve something you always have to go through the hardest stuff. Failure teaches us how to self grow and offer us opportunities to see new paths and is important to always stay positive and think about what could happen if you don't give up.
Jacy, it's great that you were able to find someone from Puerto Rico to write about. I've heard the name Daddy Yankee before, but Gasolina didn't sound familiar to me. Perhaps, for people like me, you could provide more context about his career.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that the start of your second paragraph is taken directly from the Wikipedia article and this may also be the case for other parts of your posts. When you use the wording and sentence structure from another source, it counts as plagiarism, which you need to avoid. How could you take the information that you have found about Daddy Yankee and structure it in your own way? How might you put your own spin on his story?
Remember that when using MLA citations, you need to use in-text citations that identify the sources of your information. Also, you mentioned the interview that you list in your bibliography, but you should also give some context for this interview. Who conducted the interview? What information about the interview would indicate to the reader that it's a reputable source?
I genuinely really liked the story of Daddy Yankee. I never really knew his history and how he got into music. I found it very inspiring that he was actually shot and still persevered.
ReplyDeleteDo you consider Daddy Yankee to be a role model for you? How so? If you wanted the Readers to walk away with only one piece of information, what do you think would be the most important?
I really like that you included a quote but just remember to cite it. I’m wondering who said it.

DeleteJacy, I liked the part where you mention that even though his major dream was destroyed, it did not become a permanent setback in his life.
ReplyDeleteDid you consider writing about his connection to major league baseball now? He is very tied to the game as his music is very prevalent.
Maybe adding something about how his major dream did not fully die since he is still connected to the MLB would be a good thing to add.
